Creed II: Jesus Christ, My Lord

Sunday, November 1, 2026

Big Question

What does it mean to confess that Jesus Christ is my Lord?

What Does the Catechism Say?

Second Article of the Apostles' Creed

What does this mean?

The Second Article confesses Jesus Christ, true God and true man, who redeemed sinners and made them His own through His death and resurrection.

Official Book of Concord text from Concordia Publishing House.

Law

What truth does God's Word expose?

Sin, death, and the devil hold us captive, and we cannot redeem ourselves by effort or sincerity.

Gospel

What does Christ give or promise?

Jesus, true God and true man, has redeemed us by His holy, precious blood and His innocent suffering and death.

Jesus at the Center

The Second Article names the heart of the Christian confession: Jesus was crucified and raised for you, so that you belong to Him.

In Real Life

Faith where life actually happens.

  • Set Christian hope against guilt, fear, evil, and death.
  • Let the words for me make redemption personal without making faith private.

South Lake Confirmation Book

Catechism in Real Life

Week 2The Creed, Second ArticlePages 82-85

Look for: What Christ has done to redeem and claim sinners as His own.

  • Jesus is true God and true man.
  • His cross and resurrection accomplish redemption.
  • Believers belong to Christ and live under Him.

How We Got the Bible (Session 4 - Did The Church Make Jesus Divine?)

This video helps students explore Jesus Christ in the Apostles' Creed and the Second Article: true God and true man, my Lord, who died and rose to redeem us through His saving work for us.

Video resources support Scripture, the Small Catechism, pastoral teaching, and family conversation. They do not replace them.

Talk About It

Questions for honest conversation.

  1. What do the words for me add to the Creed?
  2. Why can no other rescuer take Jesus' place?

At the Kitchen Table

What do the words 'for me' add when we confess what Jesus has done?

Ten thoughtful minutes is plenty. Listen before correcting, welcome honest questions, and end in prayer.
