Big Question

What does God give in Holy Baptism?

What Does the Catechism Say?

All four Baptism questions and explanations

What does this mean?

Holy Baptism is water included in God's command and joined to His Word. God gives forgiveness, rescue, salvation, and new life in Christ.

Official Book of Concord text from Concordia Publishing House.

Law

What truth does God's Word expose?

Sin is not a surface problem we can wash away ourselves, and our feelings cannot create a secure identity before God.

Gospel

What does Christ give or promise?

Water joined to God's Word gives forgiveness, rescues from death and the devil, and joins the baptized to Christ's death and resurrection.

Jesus at the Center

Baptism gives what Jesus has won. His promise stands outside our changing feelings: I am baptized.

In Real Life

Faith where life actually happens.

  • Return to Baptism when guilt, anxiety, comparison, or identity questions press in.
  • Begin and end the day in the name of the Triune God.

Why Water Matters in the Bible

This video connects Holy Baptism with water and God's Word, God's action and promise, forgiveness, new life in Christ, baptized identity, and daily dying and rising.

Video resources support Scripture, the Small Catechism, pastoral teaching, and family conversation. They do not replace them.

Talk About It

Questions for honest conversation.

  1. Why is Baptism God's action rather than ours?
  2. What comfort can I am baptized give on a difficult day?

At the Kitchen Table

What do we know about your Baptism, and what comfort does 'I am baptized' give today?

Ten thoughtful minutes is plenty. Listen before correcting, welcome honest questions, and end in prayer.
