Big Question

What benefit does Christ give in His Supper, and how is it received worthily?

What Does the Catechism Say?

Benefit, power, worthy reception, and Christian Questions with Their Answers

What does this mean?

Christ's words give forgiveness, life, and salvation in the Supper. Worthy reception trusts His promise, given and shed for you.

Official Book of Concord text from Concordia Publishing House.

Law

What truth does God's Word expose?

Sin and unbelief leave us unworthy in ourselves, and careless reception refuses the seriousness of Christ's words.

Gospel

What does Christ give or promise?

Christ gives forgiveness, life, and salvation; worthy reception trusts His words, given and shed for you.

Jesus at the Center

Worthiness does not mean becoming good enough. Faith receives the promise of the crucified and risen Jesus.

In Real Life

Faith where life actually happens.

  • Use self-examination to lead toward repentance, faith, reconciliation, and Christ's comfort.
  • Bring questions about admission or readiness to the pastor rather than guessing.

Talk About It

Questions for honest conversation.

  1. Why is worthy reception about faith in Christ's words?
  2. How do self-examination and Gospel comfort belong together?

At the Kitchen Table

What questions would help us better understand Communion and South Lake's practice?

Ten thoughtful minutes is plenty. Listen before correcting, welcome honest questions, and end in prayer.
